Delia & George
Delia, like many caregivers was thrown into the occupation; she went from being a wife to a full time care taker of her husband George who has Alzheimer’s. Since 2001, she single handedly took care of George’s everyday needs neglecting time of her own. In May, Delia discovered NE Focal Point CASA, Inc. The organization has an Alzheimer’s Day Care Center which George attends five days a week. At the day care center George enjoys a variety of activities, “the socialization and stimulation George receives at day care have helped him to function on a higher cognitive and physical level” said, Delia.
Alzheimer’s plagues many of our seniors; your donations make it possible for organizations like the Alzheimer’s day care center to provide a helpful environment for the patients and caregivers.
In addition, to having a safe haven for George; Delia now has time of her own and she is active in educating herself on a weekly basis with Alzheimer’s Support Group, which gives her pamphlets, coping tools and care giving techniques. Delia is now able to enjoy health improvement classes and appreciates that her husband functions well with the treatment.
