With the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year just a month away, United Way of Broward County, in partnership with the Miami VA Healthcare System, announced today that they are holding a Back-To-School Supply Drive for children of local Broward County veterans and active duty military service members. The donation drive is part of United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED initiative, a new critical program supporting US military service members, veterans and their families in Broward County.
Starting today, July 22, through Friday, August 2nd, community members and businesses are encouraged to bring donations of new school supplies, including notebooks, folders, paper, glue sticks, pens, pencil, scissors, crayons, highlighters rulers, erasers and other school items, to United Way of Broward County’s office, located at 1300 South Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale (954.462.4850). The donation box is located in United Way of Broward County’s first floor lobby and supplies can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:30a.m. - 5:00p.m.
The back-to-school school supplies will be distributed to military families on Saturday, August 10th from 9:00a.m. - 12:00p.m. at the William “Bill” Kling V.A. Outpatient Clinic, located at 9800 West Commercial Boulevard in Sunrise, Florida (954-475-5500). Military veterans and active duty service members are encouraged to learn more about MISSION UNITED initiatives and support also provided. The VA will also provide information to military veterans and active duty service members.
