United Way of Broward County, in partnership with Hispanic Unity, is proud to have offered an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program that provided 427 low-income families with free tax assistance in the community from their Mobile Tax Resource Center. The program ensured that more Broward County residents had the opportunity to file for Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) and that they could receive the funds they desperately needed. For the 2013 tax year, these families were able to receive a combined tax refund of $401,675.
The Mobile Resource Center, along with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) workers, toured the county in order to reach residents who did not have the ability or means to access financial assistance. Eligible Broward County residents were able to utilize the Mobile Resource Center from January 21st though April 15th at various locations around Broward County including Southwest Regional Library, Holy Cross Hospital, Jack & Jill Children's Center and the Northwest Coral Springs Family Success Center.
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) programs provide federal tax benefits for low and moderate-income workers. The EITC benefit can be worth up to $6,044 for families who worked in 2013. Workers raising children who earned less than a household income of about $52,000 in 2013 may be eligible for the EITC.
