September 18, 2014
The Young Leaders Society of United Way of Broward County hosted the 3rd Annual Rock United, Battle of the Bands on Friday, September 12th. The rock n’ roll filled evening raised more than  $30,000 for local community initiatives and services for those in need. More than 450 music fans attended the popular annual event which featured local corporate bands competing to win the Battle of the Bands. Doc Reno of BIG 105.9 FM served as emcee for the event.

This year, seven bands battled it out on stage, with The Associates, comprised of employees from JM Family Enterprises, Inc., being crowned the winner of the 2014 Rock United, Battle of the Bands. The EXECutioners, consisting of members of the Executives’ Association of Fort Lauderdale, were voted Fan Favorite of the night. Three judges from the music industry judged the bands based on creativity/originality, musicianship, stage presence/crowd interaction, appearance and personality. The fan favorite winner was decided using social media, based on votes during the event on Facebook using #RockUnited.  Last year’s winning band, Rejection Damage, comprised of a group of local attorneys, raised the most money of any band that participated. The other local bands that performed included The Urge, Buster Down from Steven Douglas Associates, Pilot Error and The Wayfinders from AutoNation.

“We are so thankful to everyone who came out and participated in this exciting event,” said Kathleen Cannon, President & CEO of United Way of Broward County.  “All of the bands were amazing.  It’s always so wonderful to see the community come together to support Broward County residents in need.”

Throughout the event, each band kept the energy alive by playing a selection of cover favorites. The good times lasted well into the night with the audience loving all of the energetic classic tunes! Event sponsors included JM Family Enterprises, Inc. Southeast Toyota Distributors, Publix Super Markets Charities, Broward Health, Consolidated Credit and Holman Automotive Group.
