On March 14, 2014, The Salah Foundation approved a challenge grant to United Way of Broward County offering a match of up to $50,000 of funds raised or contributed by MISSION UNITED Advisory Council members for MISSION UNITED programs through September 30, 2014. During the challenge, all 29 MISSION UNITED Advisory Council members participated in fulfilling the challenge grant by l contributing more than $108,000 for MISSION UNITED.
United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED is a critical program supporting US military service members, veterans and their families in Broward County by helping them re-acclimate to civilian life. The Salah Foundation’s $50,000 grant will be used to support MISSION UNITED’s case management, which is a most critical element within the comprehensive continuum of care. This grant will strengthen MISSION UNITED’s integrated system of veteran care that promotes stability, empowerment, and self-sufficiency among Broward veterans and military families. MISSION UNITED’S case managers are actively engaged with veterans and military families determining supportive service needs, developing a community reintegration plan, and coordinating benefits and supports such as housing; veteran entitlements; public assistance; educational, vocational, and employment services; emergency assistance; and legal counsel.
“We are grateful to The Salah Foundation for providing the $50,000 challenge grant to support MISSION UNITED,” said Kathleen Cannon, President & CEO of United Way of Broward County. “As returning veterans and their dependents struggle to access and navigate complex provider networks, MISSION UNITED’s case management program is the link to the relevant array of services and supports required for resolution of the numerous challenges veterans and military families face. The Salah Foundation is playing a critical role in supporting Broward County’s veterans and military families with re-acclimating to civilian life through MISSION UNITED.”
MISSION UNITED case management provides a holistic approach in the coordination of supportive services for our veterans and their families. Some of the agencies with whom MISSION UNITED case managers work include the Department of Veterans Affairs, Vet Center, Urban League of Broward County, Broward Regional Health Planning Council, Henderson Behavioral Health, Broward County Veteran’s Services, Jewish Family Services, and Consolidated Credit. In addition, MISSION UNITED is supported by many partners like JM Family Enterprises, Inc., Roy and Kathryn Krause, Chase, NSU, Sun Sentinel and Comcast.
