United Way of Broward County Announces Hiring of George Ivanoff as Employment Specialist for MISSION UNITED

May 15, 2015

United Way of Broward County is proud to announce George Ivanoff has joined the non-profit organization as Employment Specialist with MISSION UNITED. MISSION UNITED is a critical program supporting US military veterans and their families in Broward County by helping them re-acclimate to civilian life. Key focus areas include employment readiness, education, health, legal assistance, emergency financial aid, and housing.

In his role as employment specialist, Ivanoff will be responsible for the sourcing, screening, assessment and referral of military service members, veterans and their dependent families to available employment positions throughout Broward County. Ivanoff also hopes to increase the number of local employers who recognize the value of hiring veterans.

“Working with veterans and their families is something that I’m genuinely passionate about. The men and women of our armed forces deserve a smooth transition into civilian life after their service and MISSION UNITED is making that possible in Broward County,” said George Ivanoff. “I feel extremely fortunate for the opportunity to join the MISSION UNITED team in a professional capacity and can’t wait to get started.”

As an integral part of the program, Mr. Ivanoff will be the conduit for returning veterans needing employment. Currently, there are more than 110,000 veterans living in Broward County, and it is anticipated that Florida, which has the third largest military veteran population in the United States, will become home to a large number of those returning stateside from Iraq and Afghanistan. The unemployment rate for younger veterans continues to outpace that of out-of-work civilians, so it is vital returning veterans receive the support MISSION UNITED and Ivanoff can provide.

A longtime resident of Broward County, Ivanoff looks forward to matching veterans and their families with local employers who have made a commitment to hire them as part of the MISSION UNITED initiative. Broward County is currently ranked 9th in the nation for returning veterans. Ivanoff is already familiar with the world of veteran employment; prior to joining MISSION UNITED he managed several government-funded employment programs at CareerSource Broward, including the Jobs for Veterans State Grant which provides intensive employment services and job development for veterans with significant barriers to employment. Ivanoff’s contributions to the veteran employment program and other CareerSource Broward initiatives helped earn him the agency’s Workforce Development Professional of the Year Award for 2014. Ivanoff has also served on MISSION UNITED’s Advisory Council and Employment Committee for more than two years.

Potential employers and returning military veterans can contact George Ivanoff at 954-453-3729 or givanoff@unitedwaybroward.org. For more information about MISSION UNITED, please visit www.MissionUnited.org
