January 24, 2016

United Way of Broward County partnered with Publix Super Markets and Suddath Relocation Systems to distribute more than $300,000 worth of much needed school supplies to nearly 500 local Broward County Public School teachers. The school supply distribution was part of United Way of Broward County’s annual “Tools for Schools” donation programUnited Way invited all Broward County Public Schools teachers to pick up the supplies on Saturday, January 23.

Volunteers from Publix Super Markets, Suddath Relocation Systems, United Way of Broward County and Broward Teachers Union came out to help distribute the supplies to the teachers including Kathleen Cannon, President & CEO of United Way of Broward County, Mike Merideth, Regional Director of Publix Super Markets and Nick Christian, Vice President of Suddath Relocation Systems, South Florida Region, located in Deerfield Beach, where the distribution took place.

“Our annual ‘Tools for Schools’ donation program has been such a success thanks to the generous donations of Publix and their selfless shoppers,” said Kathleen Cannon, President & CEO of United Way of Broward County.  “Broward County teachers are so grateful to have the support of this community. Without these supplies distribution, throughout the year teachers would not have the sufficient materials to provide to their students.”

As part of the “Tools for Schools” donation program, Publix Super Markets collected more than $300,000 from generous shoppers during a one-month period and donated the funds to United Way of Broward County.  Using the funds, United Way then purchased 66,000 pencils, 54,000 crayons, 20,000 colored pencils, 63,000 folders, 23,000 notebooks, 24,000 pens, 20,000 pairs of scissors and 14,000 markers.
