United Way of Broward County is pleased to announce that Leland Liebe will serve as the new Senior Director for MISSION UNITED, the non-profit organization’s community based initiative that supports veterans and their families as they transition from military service back to civilian life. In his role as Senior Director, Liebe will direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of MISSION UNITED, leading efforts to support the initiative's key focus areas, including employment services, legal assistance, financial services, education, health and housing support.
“We are excited to welcome Leland to the United Way team to spearhead and continue to successfully further the many efforts of MISSION UNITED,” said Kathleen Cannon, President/CEO of United Way of Broward County. “His extensive knowledge and experience within the military field will serve as an outstanding asset to help us better understand and cater to the needs of our veterans.”
Liebe is a retired Colonel turned business executive with more than 25 years of service in the United States Army. He served both as an infantry officer and military intelligence officer, including combat time in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other places. Liebe obtained three master’s degrees including a Master of Arts and Science degree from the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His final assignment on active duty was as the Director of Intelligence of Special Operations Command – South in Homestead.
Most recently, Liebe was Chief Operating Officer of SmartWater CSI in Fort Lauderdale, where he successfully led the team through a rapid growth period that included the doubling of forensic partnerships with law enforcement throughout the United States and the significant growth of commercial partnerships. Under his leadership, the British Consulate General and United Kingdom Trade & Investment selected SmartWater as winner of the 2016 Great Business Innovation Award in the category of technology provider.
