United Way of Broward County and its community partners are providing free tax assistance to help low-income families in Broward County. Residents who earn a household income of less than $52,000 can have their taxes filed for FREE by Hispanic Unity's
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) workers aboard United Way of Broward County's Mobile Resource Center.*
About the Tax Credits:
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) programs provide federal tax benefits for low and moderate-income workers. The EITC benefit can be worth up to $6,044 for families who worked in 2013. Workers raising children who earned less than about $52,000 in 2013 may be eligible for the EITC. In order to claim the credits, eligible workers must file a tax return.
Interesting Broward County EITC Facts:
- Between Tax Year 2004 (returns filed in 2005) and Tax Year 2010 (returns filed in 2011) the percentage of returns received within Broward County addresses indentified as "low-income" rose from 59.7% to 72.1%.
- Taxpayers identified as "low-income elderly" (at least one taxpayer per return aged 60+) receiving the EITC rose from 4.9% in Tax Year 2007 to 6.6% in Tax Year 2010.
- For Tax Year 2012, EITC recipients in Broward County received $513,806,371.
