Accountability
The United Way system has developed comprehensive requirements for
completion of audited financial statements to ensure consistency and transparency on
the part of each United Way. The requirements are based on current best
practices in our industry as well as generally accepted accounting
principles and requirements of the Financial Accounting Standards
Board. The United Way system has also developed requirements for
completion of the IRS Form 990 that clarify various areas of ambiguity
and establish a single United Way standard.
United Way of Broward County is one of 1,300 United Ways nationwide, and operates independently of United Way of America. United Way of Broward County maintains the highest standards of professionalism, accountability and transparency in our stewardship of contributor dollars and financial management.
Our finance committee consists of high-level financial professionals who volunteer their time to our organization. They oversee the accounting and auditing procedures while regularly monitoring the fund reconciliation. An independent accounting firm audits UWBC books annually. The Finance Committee and Board of Directors must review and approve the annual audits.
