What is United Way of Broward County?

United Way of Broward County is a nonprofit, charitable 501(c) 3 organization working to advance the common good by focusing on three impact areas; education, health and income. We rely on funds raised from contributors, as well as matching grant dollars from federal and state sources. United Way of Broward County invests in a variety of programs designed to treat root causes of issues facing our community. We are the single largest non-governmental funder of health and human services.
 
Who governs United Way of Broward County?

United Way of Broward County is governed by a volunteer group of 23 Board of Directors. United Way of Broward County staff also works with key community volunteers to determine how donor contributions can most effectively be invested in local initiatives.

How long has United Way of Broward County been serving the community?

For 70 years, United Way of Broward County has been making an impact on the community where we work, live and raise our children. The needs have changed, yet our commitment to creating significant lasting impact remains steadfast.

What is United Way of Broward County’s annual investment on the community?

Last year alone, United Way of Broward County had a total impact of over $47 million on our community in health and human services.

What is Community Impact?

Community Impact is United Way of Broward County’s systemic approach to help families and individuals achieve their full potential in the areas of education, income and health.  We collaborate with community partners to identify and invest in programs that achieve measurable results aligned to specific outcomes focused on treating root causes of issues facing Broward County.

Why give?

Because of our history and reputation in the community, United Way is uniquely positioned to bring together community partners, individuals and resources that provide solutions and bring about lasting change.  Today, we are working on a different approach to solving problems.  Our focus is on bringing together people, ideas, talents and resources to tackle root causes of problems.
 
Why now?

Broward County is setting records –highest unemployment rate in 20 years, double digit increases in homelessness, and overwhelming needs for food. These children and families are relying upon the generosity of people like you to make the difference between hope and despair.  In today’s economy, the individuals that need support are our friends, families and co-workers.

How can I become more involved?

Each one of us has a unique talent – things we can do to help. Put your talent to work to improve our community. Call United Way today to find out volunteer opportunities that fit your needs. Some options include:

- Determine United Way investments through allocations committee.
- Volunteer at the Day of Caring or through similar projects.
- Seek new sponsors and company campaigns on the development committee.
- Bring in sponsors/plan events on the special events committee.
- Join an affinity group. 
- Advocate for policy change on an issue.
