Cross Country Home Services and United Way of Broward County Announce Operation Appliance Aid
for Veteran Families in Broward County
New partnership provides brand new appliances to military families in need
Cross Country Home Services, Inc. (CCHS), one of the country’s leading providers of home warranty products and maintenance plans, today announced OPERATION APPLIANCE AIDSM: Keeping things running smoothly for our veterans, a new initiative launched in partnership with United Way of Broward County. Over the next year, CCHS will donate new Whirlpool® appliances and appliance packages to veteran and military service families in need throughout Broward County.
“Because we are headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, we have a strong commitment to Broward County and approached United Way of Broward County to develop a unique program to give back to the community,” said CCHS president Sandi Finn.
United Way of Broward County has been working on serving local military families through funding programming that focuses on the emotional and mental health needs of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) returning service members, veterans and their families. The organization then established the Military Families Advisory Committee to unite the community in support of veterans and military families to fill gaps in other needed services. The committee has identified three major unmet needs among veterans including financial, legal and employment assistance. The committee is currently working to secure resources for veterans and military families and to get the message of support out to the community.
“CCHS is an American company, and we loved what this organization was doing for returning vets and their families. We wanted to find a way that we could build on our strength as a company in order to improve their daily lives,” added Finn. “While we recognize the overwhelming and significant struggles these families may have, we believe that providing a tangible gift in the form of a new appliance can bring an immediate sense of relief and we are proud that we are able to show our appreciation for their service to our country.”
OPERATION APPLIANCE AID was launched to coincide with the 4th of July and announced at a press conference where attendees included Finn and colleagues from CCHS, representatives of United Way of Broward County and many local veterans and their families. At the conference, Pembroke Pines resident Pam Smith, of the U.S. Army SSG / E-6 in information and technology, was presented with the first donation of a brand new Whirlpool® washer and dryer, refrigerator and stove. Smith was injured in the line of duty and is a single mother to a 15-year-old daughter and 5-year-old twins, one of whom is autistic.
“It is so important to honor and support those who have sacrificed so much for our country,” said Kathleen Cannon, President and CEO of United Way of Broward County. She continued, “what better way to welcome our veterans home than through generous donations of beautiful new appliances from Cross Country Home Services.”
