A Bright Future Ahead

Maelipainting_2_.jpgLin is a young teen with albinism, autism and visual impairment. Through early intervention and ongoing therapies, she learned to overcome many personal obstacles and to interact well with others. Now schooled at home, she continues to build the skills she needs to become an independent adult with the help of a program funded by United Way of Broward County and donors like you.

Using low-vision devices and Braille, the program teaches students real-life skills like how to read a recipe, cook and handle money. It also has introduced Lin and her peers to an important STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math) curriculum that challenges critical thinking and communication skills while building social skills and more. Lin attends monthly social events, holiday parties and summer and spring break camp and has made many friends. She has grown into a confident young lady with a bright future ahead of her.
The program Lin participates in is one of 12 STEAM and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs funded by United Way of Broward County for low-income, at-risk and disadvantaged children in our community.

Through United Way of Broward County, you help today’s youth achieve their greatest potential by focusing on early learning and leadership programs. You’re the reason children are well-fed and ready to learn, students are reading at grade level and teens are equipped with the skills to avoid risky behavior. Your gift provides the support our children need to be prepared and successful.
