As part of an annual celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, United Way of Broward County's Women United brought 80 women volunteers to Sunland Park Academy and Lauderdale Manors Elementary on Friday, Feb. 28th to read Dr. Seuss’ I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! to more than 500 students.

The event, held three days before Dr. Seuss’ actual birthday, was in support of the National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day initiative. Students enjoyed hearing the story read to them and then participated in a hands-on classroom activity.

To top off the day, each student received a copy of the book to take home to build their personal libraries. Five hundred books were donated to the children by generous community volunteers.
