A Happy Holiday Story

United Way of Broward County Brings Together a Generous Company and a Family in Need

Tiy%20large.pngIt was a match made by United Way of Broward County.

In early December, we received a call from Corporate Insurance Advisors, LLC, (CIA) who was looking to “adopt” a family for Christmas. CIA had been doing a year-long fundraising drive, with a variety of activities that included paying a small fee to wear jeans to the office, participating in a 50/50 drawing, and more. Now the company was looking to use the funds to purchase gifts for a family in need.

Immediately, we thought of Tiy, a single mother we know who has been unemployed and was struggling on a daily basis. Tiy didn’t have the means to provide presents for her daughters, ages 2 and 8, and we wanted to help.

Using our best matchmaking skills, United Way of Broward County brought the generous company and the family together. CIA delivered a beautiful Christmas tree to Tiy’s home, followed by a car full of gifts – including stuffed animals, learning toys, car seats, clothing and a hoverboard.

“It really meant a lot to me and lightened up my children’s faces,” said Tiy. “I’m very grateful to have United Way help me this year with Christmas gifts. Thank you!”

United Way also connected Tiy to a job-assistance source and other resources to help make her new year brighter.
