What to be Thankful for in Broward County
When it comes to Thanksgiving, we in Broward County have a lot to be grateful for. Here are a few things to appreciate while feasting on turkey, watching football and going Black Friday shopping.
What more is there to be thankful for in Broward County than our beautiful weather? While everyone up north is huddled by the fireplace to fight off the cold and snow, we are fortunate to enjoy blue skies, sun and warm temperatures. Even our winters are bearable, compared to other regions!
Broward County is known for our miles and miles of beautiful beaches, as well as other waterways and parks. Here, we can enjoy everything from lounging on a towel by the ocean to participating in active sports like boating, fishing, kayaking and jet-skiing. While other people are shoveling snow from their driveways, you can be thankful you are able to go to the beach in the winter.
Friends and Family
Whether it’s spending time with local loved ones or hosting out-of-town guests, friends and family are the most important thing in our lives. During this time of year especially, remember to just say “thank you” to the people who do so much for you every day. A simple gesture or a word of gratitude can mean a lot to someone you love.
As visitors to our area can confirm, one of Broward County’s greatest treasures is Publix Super Markets. Looking for a turkey, a side of mashed potatoes, a scrumptious pumpkin pie – or an occasional birthday cake? Living in South Florida definitely has its perks when you are able to shop at Publix!
Broward County is blessed with a wonderful community of caring, generous people and United Way of Broward County counts on our wonderful volunteers – at Thanksgiving time and throughout the year – to help those who are working hard and falling short. At this time of year, volunteer efforts include distributing Thanksgiving turkeys and food baskets to local residents in need, as well as “adopting” families for the holidays. Community support also funds United Way of Broward County’s Project Lifeline, a year-round program that coordinates the bulk purchase and delivery of fresh, nutritious food, including fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, meats, rice, beans, grains and even ice cream to a network of 25 food banks and feeding programs.
