Women's History Month: Dr. Nikette Neal
In honor of Women's History Month we will be highlighting volunteers, advocates and friends of United Way of Broward County throughout the month.
This week, we are highlighting Dr. Nikette Neal.
Dr. Nikette Neal, Nova Southeastern University
How are you involved with at United Way of Broward County?
Dr. Nikette Neal, a board certified pediatrician, welcomed United Way of Broward County employees, Brandon Stewart and Elkin Alfred, to present 'Unconscious Bias' to incoming medical students and graduate students at Nova Southeastern University.
Which woman inspires you and why?
Michelle Obama really inspired me when she made the infamous, “when they go low, we go high,” comment. I’m general, I admire how she used her influence during her term as First Lady to help children, women, and people of color.
What is your favorite thing about being a woman?
My favorite thing about being a woman is being able to shatter misconceptions and break through bias. I am somewhat of a “girly” girl and this has often led to people immediately assuming that they know what I am capable of. When I excel or show my strength in adversity it often surprises them. I feel this opens the door for other women to be themselves as well and teaches others not to judge a book by its cover.
