Coordinator, Suicide Prevention Coalition

General Description:  This grant funded position is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and focus in the development of strategies and tactics for an integrated approach to United Way of Broward County (UWBC) community based activities in the Broward Suicide Prevention Coalition. This position promotes systemic engagement through working with various members of Broward County System of Care. 

Primary Job Responsibility & Duties: 

  1. Has the primary duty of managing the day to day operations of the Broward Suicide Prevention Coalition (BSPC).
  2. Responsible for the development, operation and evaluation of all Behavioral Health initiatives related to the Advisory Council, the Zero Suicide initiative and key committees.  
  3. Help develop and execute of the Broward Suicide Prevention Coalition Annual Strategic Action Plan. 
  4. Responsible for the quality assurance process for the Broward Suicide Prevention Coalition. 


Other Job Duties:   

  • Help recruit volunteers to participate in the Coalition workgroups. 
  • Coordinate and provide suicide prevention, postvention and Adverse Childhood Experience trainings.
  • Meets with and enlist key local stakeholders, coalitions, and service providers to promote the goals of the BSPC.
  • Outreach to community organizations, groups and agencies (ex. Schools, Non-profits, Business, veterans, primary care clinics), to develop and strengthen partnerships with the Broward Suicide Prevention Coalition.
  • Enhance linkage and cohesion between multiple community efforts addressing trauma and suicide prevention.
  • Responsible for completing and maintaining all mandatory support documentation, data entry and/or deliverable reports which comply with contract requirements for timelines and accuracy.
  • Responsible for annual end of year report of the Broward Suicide Prevention Coalition.
  • Researches, analyzes, and synthesizes data pertinent to the BSPC (i.e. annual suicide death data, Baker act data, etc.).
  • Coordinates activities and communications with appropriate organizations, i.e., state, county, local commissions, networks, councils, etc., as they relate to community impact area of focus.
  • Creates informational documents, gives presentations, and acts as the agency’s lead authority, both internally and externally, on assigned Community Impact area.
  • Establishes baseline data for measurement of program and team results.
  • Stay current and up to date on issues and statistics relevant to assigned Community Impact Area. 
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Due to the leadership role United Way is called upon to play in the community, particularly during times of crisis, it is the expectation that all United Way staff will be fully engaged in the organization's crisis plan and response efforts.

Supervises:  This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services required, Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • Minimum of three years related experience in Human Service delivery and/or administration. 
  • Experience working in Behavioral Health and Behavioral Systems required. 
  • Administrative and supervisory experience working with volunteers and staff preferred. 
  • Proficiency required in MS Word, Excel and other related computer programs.
