As the coronavirus continues to hit our community hard and we all deal with a lot of uncertainty, United Way of Broward County is very concerned about families and individuals who struggle every day to make ends meet.
We know you share our thoughts about the people in our community, which is why we are reaching out to you today.
Currently, 50% of our community are the ALICE population – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed - or those living below the poverty level. ALICE families are working hard, but falling short… living paycheck to paycheck… and just one emergency from disaster.
This emergency is the coronavirus. It’s adding new financial stresses onto people already struggling, and creating NEWLY displaced people.
Think of hourly employees who are taking care of their children at home and missing out on wages… Think of those from the local restaurants and hotels being laid off… think of business owners forced to shut down… and more.
To provide critical assistance to our neighbors in need, United Way of Broward County has launched a COVID-19 Campaign to raise funds for two key areas:
- Food Assistance
- Delivery of pre-packed meals to eligible shut-in elderly
- Supplementing efforts by Broward County Public Schools to feed local students on free/reduced lunch (66% of Broward County students) by launching a walk-up/drive-thru distribution sites for pre-packed meals and food
- Doubling deliveries to the food banks we serve through our program, Project Lifeline
- Emergency Financial Assistance
- Utility assistance
- Rental/mortgage assistance
- Food assistance
- Household supplies
We will only be successful with your support. Our whole community coming together is what will make a difference.
$250 will help 1 household with emergency financial needs
$100 will send fresh, nutritious food to 2 local food pantries
$50 will buy 5 days of meals (2 meals per day) for 1 elderly Broward resident
$25 will buy 4 meals and snacks for 1 hungry Broward student
The COVID-19 Campaign goes above and beyond support of United Way of Broward County’s annual campaign, and 100% of all donations to the COVID-19 Campaign will be used to support those affected by the coronavirus.
