Keynote Speaker

Jane Seymour
Actress & Philanthropist

Jane SeymourAward-winning actress Jane Seymour has showcased her talents on the Broadway stage, in motion pictures, and on television, blazing the trail for family-friendly programming with her Golden Globe-winning role as “Dr. Michaela Quinn” on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Seymour's film credits include the iconic James Bond film Live and Let Die and the cult classic Somewhere in Time. She co-starred in the hit comedy film Wedding Crashers alongside Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as well as in the comedic feature Blind Dating with Chris Pine and Eddie Kaye Thomas and directed by her husband James Keach.

Fulfilling her lifelong dream to dance and overcoming a serious back injury, Seymour took the dance floor by storm, appearing on the phenomenal sensation Dancing with the Stars. As the most seasoned woman to compete on the show, she showed the half-dressed 20- somethings how to foxtrot, cha cha, and tango. She also rallied her strength and showcased her talent as she overcame a series of personal tragedies, including the loss of her mother, while on the show. A true professional, she continues to inspire everyone who has ever had a dream to take the steps to make it happen.

Dubbed a "Renaissance Woman" by the press, Seymour recently launched the new Jane Seymour Home Collection – a national lifestyle brand inspired by her homes, art, and family- centered lifestyle. Rolled out in 2007, this collection of home textiles, lighting, home fragrance, and decorative accessories is available at such retailers as The Great Indoors, Amazon.com, home décor specialty stores, and Seymour's e-commerce website JaneSeymourHome.com. In her new role as designer, Seymour is also developing an accessories and jewelry collection.

Seymour is also an established author. Her eighth book, Making Yourself at Home, a decorating book featuring her home and lifestyle tips, hit shelves in 2007. Amongst her other books is the autobiographical Remarkable Changes: Turning Life’s Challenges into Opportunities, profiling her own and 20 personal stories of others who have experienced positive transformation in the face of life-changing crisis. The birth of her twins John and Kris in 1995 inspired Seymour to team with her husband, director/producer/actor James Keach, to write a series of exceedingly successful children’s books entitled This One ‘n That One, inspired by the changes having twins brought into their lives. She is also the author of Two at a Time: A Journey through Twin Pregnancy and Birth and Jane Seymour’s Guide to Romantic Living.

When she is not acting, writing, or designing, Seymour can be found in her painting studio. With a thriving career as an artist and her own art gallery in Los Angeles, she has exhibited in numerous galleries and venues across the nation. Her art also serves as inspiration for her designs that include an exclusive collection of art-to-wear handbags and scarves.

Seymour began painting nearly a decade ago, prompted by a period of personal challenge. Her art became the expression of a very private healing process. She emerged from this experience as an accomplished, passionate painter. Today, Seymour sketches and paints at her Malibu studio, on movie sets, and on her travels. Over the past 16 years she has created an intimate world of delicate watercolors and colorful vibrant oil paintings, and has accepted select private commissions.

Her talents as an established fine artist have led way to the artist being asked to create costume and set designs for the Houston Ballet’s production of “Five Poems” in 2001, the mounting of her first one-woman museum exhibition in 2004 at the Butler Institute of American Art, as well as being selected as one of the official painters of the 2005 Torino Winter Olympics, and the official artist of the 2006 Naples Winter Wine Festival.

Most importantly, Seymour continues to raise much-needed funds and gives through donations of her artwork to numerous local and national charities. An ardent advocate for the importance of heart health, she lent her artistic talents to the Art for Heart campaign to support the California Pistachio Commission's second-year partnership with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute's The Heart Truth campaign. Seymour is a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Heart Federation, working tirelessly to educate people – especially women – of the dangers of heart disease and the steps that can be taken in our daily lives to help prevent it. Most recently, she has been named the face of a continental European atrial fibrillation and stroke awareness campaign, 1 Mission 1 Million: Getting to the Heart of Stroke.

In addition to her busy life of acting, writing, designing, painting, and mothering six children, Seymour is a dedicated activist for a number of charities seeking to improve children’s lives around the world and has been actively involved in charitable endeavors for over 25 years. She serves as the Honorary Chairperson for City Hearts, an organization that enriches the lives of inner-city children and disadvantaged youths by teaching and involving them in arts programs including painting, dancing, photography, and acting. She is also an International Ambassador for Childhelp, a national organization dedicated to the research, treatment, and prevention of child abuse. In addition to winning that organization's "Woman of the World" Award, she has also the recipient of many other honors for her social and charitable achievements. She is, as well, a member of the American Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet and spearheads their campaign to eradicate measles as the number one killer of children in Africa.

Seymour is an advocate of combining traditional western medicine with alternative medicine practice after witnessing the amazing results the combination had upon her ailing father in his last days, as well as the positive influence it has had on her other family members.
