United Way of Broward County Invites You to Join Us for a Workshop
Topic: The Black Side of Autism
Presented by Maria Davis-Pierre

This workshop will highlight the importance of cultural awareness when working with Black families of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Beginning with a detailed analysis and explanation of culture broadly, the presenter will lead the conversation toward helping attendees understand their cultural development and biases. Then the workshop will discuss stigmas associated within and outside of the black community in regards to autism. This information will be used to show how therapists can work with these stigmas by integrating cultural components from within the clients’ culture provide effective therapy and be a resource for the community.
