Substance Abuse Awareness and Prevention for Mental Health Professionals

About the Event

United Way of Broward County Invites You to Join Us for a Virtual Training
Topic: Substance Abuse Awareness and Prevention for Mental Health Professionals
Presented by: Phyllis Babrove, LCSW

"Addiction is a hugely complex and destructive disease, and its impact can be simply devastating. All too often, lives and families can be shattered by it." (Kate Middleton)

From April 2019 to April 2020, over 100,000 Americans died from drug overdoses. In 2020, 11,629 Floridians overdosed from fentanyl, cocaine, alcohol, methamphetamines, and benzodiazepines. One half of the deaths in Florida were from fentanyl, with the majority being in Broward County. This training will identify risk factors in early childhood that may be indicators of later addiction; incorporating basic parenting skills in family therapy sessions; therapeutic interventions for clients who abuse substances; resources for clients; and the levels of care appropriate for each stage of recovery.
