About the Event

What is it?
The Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) is a 2-Day virtual youth summit hosted by the Broward Youth Coalition (BYC) students.

When is it?
Wednesday, June 16th 2:00pm - 4:30pm
Thursday, June 17th 2:00pm - 4:30pm

Where is it?
The YLI event will be held via Zoom. You must register in advance to receive information about how to join the webinar. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Who can participate?
8th Grade Students through High School Graduating Seniors

What will I experience?
During the 2-day leadership event we'll connect with students, like you, and discuss mental health promotion, resilience during a pandemic and substance use prevention. The virtual event will feature special guests, several student-led sessions and more! 

Both days will include prizes and service hours*! 

How much does it cost?
It's FREE!

*Must attend both days for full duration to receive community service hours.

Our Keynote Speaker

Colber ProsperColber Prosper, former BYC Member
Mr. Colber Prosper is the founder and senior consultant for Prosper & Partners, an international consulting firm that specializes in professional and organizational development. He is also the author of the book No Entry: Examining the powers that undermine our full potential. Mr. Prosper is an innovative and compassionate leader who has been recognized for his ability to educate youth and professionals on various topics. Colber is an experienced facilitator that has led a plethora of presentations and workshops. He has done extensive research on issues of inclusion, social justice, organizational change, middle management and higher education. He has facilitated numerous presentations, programs, workshops and trainings around these topic areas. Mr. Prosper has also provided trainings in coalition building, prevention of substance use or misuse and organizational development around the world in places such as Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Cape Town, South Africa; Nairobi, Kenya and several more. His extensive background in strategic planning and implementation has made him an asset to various higher educational institutions and non-profit organizations.  

Colber identifies as Haitian African American. He was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School and was recruited to play football at Maryville College (Go SCOTS). There at Maryville, Colber attained his Bachelor of Arts in History. He then attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (Go VOLS) for his minor in Political Science and his Masters in College Student Personnel. While at the University of Tennessee, Mr. Prosper was selected out of a national search to serve as a CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America) Ambassador. After he was selected he started the National Coalition Academy in 2009 and graduated from the Academy in 2011. 
Mr. Prosper has had the opportunity to work, study and present with leading professionals in higher education, immigration policy, political science and organizational management. He and his colleagues has presented at Harvard University several times. He has worked with national and international organizations such as the United Way, Pre-College Upward Bound, the Children Defense Fund, the National Urban League, NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) and CADCA. 

Mr. Prosper also teaches at the University of the District of Columbia and the College of St. Joseph where his research is being used to engage students. Finally, Colber has a passion for people and believes that the spirit of thoughtful collaboration can enhance the lives of individuals and improve organizations.

Miss Broward Cairo Eubanks
miss broward countyCairo Eubanks, 25, has actively been involved in her community, sitting on boards like New Leaders Council Broward Chapter; Broward County Sheriff’s Social Justice Task Force; Mayor Messam’s Public Safety Council; and is a Board Advisor and Paralegal for Global Oved Dei Seminary and University (GODSU).

A budding future international arbitrator and attorney, She has also given to her local and international communities as the Youth Representative for New Future Foundation for the United Nations since 2014 and is currently a Member of the United Nations Department of Global Communications Youth Steering Committee. Cairo competed in her first competition in March 2020 and currently reigns as Miss Broward County for Miss America. She'll be competing for the title of Miss Florida on June 25, 2021!

Chef Chris Valdes
Chef Chris Valdes Miami born and raised Latino chef, Chris Valdes,  has embraced many cultures through his cooking by fusing Caribbean flavors with modern influences to create iconic dishes.  His relentless drive to share his passion for cooking and bringing people together led Chef Chris to create his own platform on YouTube and star in his very own series, Cooking with Chris. Chef Chris has been featured on the cover of several magazines, various national TV shows such as Hallmark’s Home and Family and LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, and was a finalist on Food Network Star and Star Salvation. Chef Chris blends his passion for food with his love for the local community, and has worked with many organizations such as No Kid Hungry and the March of Dimes. The Chef donated over 40k meals to his community including first responders, seniors and families in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.
