Manager, SSVF Landlord Relations

General Description: The SSVF Manager of Landlord Relations is responsible for expanding and increasing access to affordable, permanent housing units for Veterans experiencing homelessness in Broward County and Miami-Dade County. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform outreach to realtors, landlords, housing developers, and other housing providers through in-person meetings, presentations, and community networking events to identify new and existing housing opportunities for the homeless Veteran community
  • Negotiate with landlords to “sell” the program and convince landlords to accept tenants they may normally screen out
  • Secure enough housing units to house eligible homeless Veteran participants throughout Broward and Miami-Dade County
  • Develop and implement a landlord recruitment and retention plan
  • Build and maintain a centralized database of available, affordable vacant units for the MISSION UNITED Program
     

Other Key Responsibilities and Skills

  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with suitable Property Managers and Landlords for long term coordination of permanent housing services for homeless Veterans, to include implementation of quarterly recruitment and retention activities for realtors, landlords, and housing developers in Broward and Miami-Dade County
  • Identify opportunities for expanding the number of units available to program participants using leasing statistics, market data, and other relevant sources of information
  • Serve as a housing subject matter expert for the SSVF grant, and its relationship inside of Broward County’s and Miami-Dade County’s Homeless Continuum of Care model
  • Represent UWBC at external meetings and community events to promote & discuss the SSVF grant specifically, Mission United, and United Way
  • Create and disseminate a landlord recruitment package for Veteran services 
  • Coordinate with Director, Program and Senior Director, Mission United, to ensure continuity and comprehensiveness of housing choices for veterans.
  • Identify and develop program specific outcomes to ensure program effectiveness and impact, and the ability to report that to funders and the community
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of SSVF program regulations, guidelines, procedures, and requirements including: VA regulations and guidelines relating to program eligibility and participation, income determination, HUD VASH vouchers, Housing Quality Standards (HQS), rent reasonableness, payment standards, etc.
  • Assist with request for data and reporting, to ensure compliance with grants and funders. 
  • Conduct semi-annual satisfaction surveys with landlords and property managers to gather landlord testimonials and build database of feedback
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Due to the leadership role United Way is called upon to play in the community, particularly during times of crisis, it is the expectation that all United Way staff will be fully engaged in the organization's crisis plan and response efforts.

Supervises: Housing Specialists
 

Education & Experience:

  • Five (5) of more years experience in the residential real estate market as a developer, builder or realtor.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; organizational, conflict resolution and computer literacy.
  • Prior experience and understanding the causes of homelessness is desirable.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current community resources and ability to develop and maintain working relationships with landlords and funders.
  • Ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Possess a valid Florida State Driver’s License to be verified annually.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
     

Environment & Physical Demands: The environment is climate controlled (i.e., heated and air-conditioned).  Lighting is adequate through overhead lighting as well as windows and blinds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical demands include sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, bending, lifting approximately 25 pounds, regular use of the telephone, copier, fax and computer. Demands also involve protracted concentration.
