United Way of Broward County

It is our distinguished honor to present the 2012 Tocqueville Society Award to Colin Brown.

As president and CEO of JM Family Enterprises, Inc., Mr. Brown leads the diversified automotive organization’s business operations and strategic planning. He also serves as a visible champion for its corporate philanthropy and volunteer initiatives. He joined the company in 1992 and has been president and CEO since 2003. JM Family is currently ranked No. 32 by FORTUNE® as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” its 15th consecutive year on the list.

Mr. Brown has proudly served on the board of United Way of Broward County since 2005. Among his contributions is helping develop the Community Impact Model and initiating the collaboration of United Way and the American Red Cross to launch Mission United, a program addressing issues facing

returning military veterans and their families. In addition, Mr. Brown spearheads an annual fundraising campaign at JM Family. Under his leadership, the company’s South Florida associates contributed more than $294,000 to United Way in 2012. He has been a member of the Tocqueville Society since 2000.

Mr. Brown also lends his talents and resources to other organizations devoted to identifying solutions to critical community issues and promoting economic growth, including Habitat for Humanity, Broward Workshop and the Youth Automotive Training Center.

Raised by a Foreign Service family, Brown graduated with a juris doctorate from Duke University School of Law and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College.

The Tocqueville Society Award is given annually to the individual who shows outstanding commitment to the community through volunteerism, leadership and exceptional financial support of United Way of Broward County and the Tocqueville Society.
