MISSION UNITED is a critical program supporting US military
veterans and their families in Broward County by helping them re-acclimate to
civilian life. Key focus areas include employment readiness, education, health,
legal assistance, emergency financial aid, and housing.

Through MISSION UNITED, United Way of Broward County is aligning
existing services and creating solutions where there are gaps in support.


Employment Readiness
Linking Veterans to Career Opportunities

Creating a Path to a Career

  • Assist veterans and their families in making career and education decisions to match skills and interests

  • Learn which local or vocational school, college or university may fit your career choice

Accessing Health Care After Active Duty

  • Learn about your VA eligibility and enrollment
  • Navigate the civilian health care system

Legal Assistance
Connecting Eligible Veterans With Pro Bono Legal Services

  • Pro bono legal services which include: marriage and family law; consumer issues; housing issues; VA benefits; military discharge upgrades; real estate and business transactions; probate, wills and estate planning

Mentorship For VeteransConnecting Student Veterans with Respectful and Trustworthy Mentors

  • Providing veteran mentees with a sounding board, role model, and trusted friend
  • Veteran and non-veteran mentors share professional and personal ‘lessons learned’ with mentees
  • Strengthens mentee’s support network and builds competence and confidence
  • Mentee drives the selection process in choosing their mentor 

Emergency Financial Aid
Providing Access to Short-Term Assistance

  • Financial Assistance is provided on needs assessment, transition plan, resource availability

Eliminating Homelessness

  • Linking to existing veteran housing opportunities
  • Support for veterans at risk of losing housing
  • Connecting homeless veterans to rapid rehousing opportunities
