May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this commemoration shines a critical spotlight on mental well-being, open dialogue, and ways to overcome stigmas and encouraging open dialogue. Mental health Is integral to overall health, and every day of the year, United Way of Broward County is focused on raising awareness, fostering collective action, and supporting access to resources to empower individuals and strengthen our community.
Being informed about behavioral health equips people with the knowledge to understand the connections among mental health, emotional well-being, and behavioral patterns, and it can help with overcoming a range of challenges — like anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and more. By raising awareness about the importance of mental well-being, we can break the stigma often associated with mental health issues and deliver better care through early intervention.
For professionals in this field, advanced education enhances the ability to implement evidence-based practices, be better attuned to the signs of mental health concerns, and enables the delivery of sharpened, effective support. For people in the general public, education about behavioral health can save lives by learning how to build resilience, maintain emotional well-being, and develop empathy for others who may be in distress. A central part of behavioral health is prevention. By identifying coping strategies, stress management, and the importance of seeking help, individuals can take proactive steps before crises arise.
United Way of Broward County is fostering a culture where mental health is prioritized, where individuals feel supported, and where communities thrive. One way our United Way is delivering better care to Broward County is through our annual Behavioral Health Conference.
The 10th Annual South Florida Behavioral Health Conference is more than just an event — it’s a transformative experience bringing together professionals, advocates, and community members to address critical issues and advance the benefits of behavioral health.
