CREATING A SUCCESSFUL FUTURE THROUGH BYC
The stress that our children feel today is something that we as adults can’t even begin to understand. From cyber bullying to peer pressure, children can easily feel overwhelmed and scared, unless they have somewhere safe and secure to turn to in school. Like Aiden did.
Aiden found out about Broward Youth Coalition (BYC) while he was a student at Fort Lauderdale High School. He didn’t know much about the program, but decided to go ahead and try it out. Within weeks he felt the positive impact of BYC and invited his friends to join.
United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention created the Broward Youth Coalition (BYC). This group of high school drug free youth leaders come together on a bi-monthly basis to create, develop and put into action positive, social change activities as it relates to underage drinking, substance use/abuse, bullying, peer pressure & other interrelated issues.
Aiden, who is now in college, felt so engaged by BYC he is pursuing a career as a motivational speaker and plans on writing a book to empower youth.
“Thanks to the efforts of United Way of Broward County’s Commission on Behavioral Health and Drug Prevention, programs like BYC will change the lives of teens in Broward County. I am living proof it is possible to create your own path in life, free from the pressures of bullying and substance abuse.”
