GivingTuesday began as a simple idea: an annual day that encourages people to do good.

It has grown into a global movement that is inspiring hundreds of millions of people in over 75 countries to be generous, transform the communities where they live and make the world a better place.

This worldwide day of celebration is observed on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and this year, it is happening on November 29.

Now it’s more important than ever that all of us in Broward County celebrate GivingTuesday.

Did you know that 54% of all households in Broward County are either living in or one emergency away from poverty?

Another distressing fact is that this number of households includes nearly a quarter of a million children.

The people in this staggering amount are in the community where we live.

For some of us, the holidays are a time for being with loved ones, exchanging gifts, taking vacations and reflecting on how fortunate we are.

For the majority of people in Broward County, these holidays will be an extremely stressful time — one that increases the anxiety of how they are going to care for themselves and take care of their children.

We invite you to join us — and millions of people around the world — by commemorating GivingTuesday on November 29.

Any amount you contribute to United Way of Broward County can make a tremendous impact. You can provide our neighbors with much-needed resources and support — and hope for a better life.

For example, $10 can become books for preschoolers. $100 can provide several meals for two families of four. $365 — that’s $1 per day for one year — can provide several meals to eight families of four.

Think of the impact that larger amounts will do!

Your support for the people in our community through United Way of Broward County makes success happen — successes that include:

  • stable, affordable housing
  • support services for Veterans and their families
  • reduced homelessness
  • employment assistance
  • educational resources to children
  • decreased risks for substance abuse
  • care and support for people who are developmentally and physically disabled
  • companionship to isolated seniors
  • and so much more

Celebrate with us on Tuesday, November 29, support the diverse people who live in Broward County and become a part of the worldwide generosity of millions of people who are supporting the communities where they live.

Together, we can bring hope and change lives for the better forever.
