ReadingPals Training Session

8/21/2024 | 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

You Can Build Life-Long Learning and Success for Broward’s Young Students

Nearly 50% of Florida’s third graders attending public schools cannot read at grade level, and United Way of Broward County is making a huge difference in reducing this number.

Our ReadingPals program is providing critical, tangible support to Broward County’s schools, children, and parents. Through ReadingPals, elementary school students are increasing their scores significantly in print knowledge, phonological awareness, math, and oral language.

In a sample of 225 children in our Reading Pals program, reading proficiency was increased by 116%.

Mentors/volunteers with our ReadingPals program are essential to its success, and trained mentors are set up at schools for one hour per week for 28 weeks to open a child to the wonders of reading and learning.

Currently, ReadingPals is offered in only 38 of Broward County’s 138 public elementary schools. You can help us expand this program and ensure every child has the opportunity for success.
