MISSION UNITED Backpack Drive
United Way Broward’s MISSION UNITED Backpack Drive helps prepare children of Veterans and local families for the upcoming school year by providing backpacks filled with essential school supplies.
This year’s initiative will focus on quality over quantity, with a goal of distributing 500 backpacks to children across Broward County, including approximately 300 Veteran families.
Through the support of sponsors, donors, and volunteers, this effort helps students begin the school year feeling prepared, confident, and supported.
Sponsor the Backpack Drive
Sponsorship opportunities are now available for organizations and community partners looking to make a direct impact on local students and Veteran families.
Sponsors will receive recognition across event materials, marketing collateral, and day-of signage. Sponsorship logos are requested by May 28 for inclusion in initial promotional materials.

Donate Supplies or Backpacks
Community members and organizations are invited to support the drive through monetary donations, backpack contributions, or school supply donations.
The public donation window will open June 1 and remain open through July 10 to assist with inventory planning. Additional drop-offs may be accepted through the event date based on availability and need.
Register to Receive Backpacks
Registration for backpack assistance will open June 1. Families registering will be asked to provide household information and the number of children needing supplies to help ensure accurate inventory distribution.
Volunteer With Us
Volunteers are needed for backpack packing events and day-of distribution support. Opportunities include organizing supplies, packing backpacks, assisting with traffic flow, and helping distribute items to families during the drive-through event. Community service hours may be available for eligible volunteers.

Event Day Information
The Backpack Drive will operate as a drive-through distribution. Families will receive backpacks and supplies while remaining in their vehicles.
Additional event instructions, traffic flow details, and pickup information will be shared with registered participants prior to the event.
