United Way Broward to Surprise Longtime Philanthropist Jean Colker with a Birthday Celebration Giving Back to the Community

 

To celebrate philanthropist Jean Colker's 104th birthday, United Way Broward surprised her with a volunteer service project assembling more than 200 food bags for local seniors, veterans, and families experiencing food insecurity. The event honored Jean's decades of generosity and lasting impact on the Broward community, with her family also donating puzzles, coloring books, and other gifts to brighten recipients' day.

Fresh Communities Tour: From the Fields to America’s Cities

 

United Way Broward partnered with Planet Harvest, Fresh Express, and Chiquita to host a large-scale drive-through food distribution as part of the Fresh Communities Tour: From the Fields to America’s Cities. Held on April 17, 2026, the event helped provide fresh, nutritious food boxes to Broward families, supporting access to healthy meals and nutrition resources across the community. The South Florida kickoff distributed thousands of food boxes throughout Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, with United Way Broward serving as one of the largest distribution sites. Each box included fresh fruits and vegetables, pantry staples, protein, Fresh Express® salad kits, Chiquita® bananas, and recipe resources to encourage healthy eating at home.
