MISSION UNITED: Michelle

MISSION UNITED Guides a Veteran from Homelessness to Homeownership

Veterans Are Reclaiming Their Lives and Dignity

Michelle is one of the 22,000 Veterans MISSION UNITED has helped since its launch in 2013. Originally from Fort Lauderdale, she served in the U.S. Navy as a part of the Hospital Corpsmen — providing medical care to Navy personnel and their families, specifically as an advocate for victims of sexual assault.

“The military was my whole life, and when I returned to Fort Lauderdale, I lost it all — my home, my career, my medical licenses, my driver license. I typed in my laptop ‘homeless Veteran,’ and ‘United Way’ was the first thing that popped up,” says Noland.

“The team at United Way’s MISSION UNITED helped with my credit, financial management, and therapy, and they even found an apartment for my mother and me. Because I followed the structure MISSION UNITED outlined, I now am proud owner of a beautiful home. I’m not sure people can comprehend how much MISSION UNITED saved my life.”

Broward County is home to nearly 100,000 Veterans — and United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED provides comprehensive, wraparound services to Veterans with housing support, job placement, legal resources, financial management, services for mental and physical health, and much more.
