This Giving Tuesday, Your Donation Has Double the Impact!

Hunger is a harsh reality for more than 800 million people around the world, and it is not a distant crisis — it’s happening right here in Broward County. It’s the child who arrives at school without breakfast, the Veteran who skips meals to pay rent, your elderly neighbor who stretches groceries to last until the end of the week.

Across Broward County, tens of thousands of individuals and families face the daily struggle of putting nutritious food on the table. From single parents juggling multiple jobs to seniors surviving on fixed incomes, food insecurity is a growing challenge that touches every corner of our community.

The statistics are alarming: · Nearly 40% of Florida families living below the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) threshold say that their children are not eating enough due to financial hardships.

· Nearly 270,000 people in Broward County do not know how their next meal will come.

· Almost 100,000 children are unable to access nutritious food on a regular basis.

However, these numbers only tell part of the story. Food insecurity means compromised health, stunted development, and diminished futures. Children who go hungry are more likely to experience developmental delays and struggle academically. Adults face increased risks of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The mental toll of chronic hunger can lead to anxiety, depression, and rising costs for healthcare.

Over 50% of households in Broward County are living at or below the federal poverty level. For these families, a single unexpected expense — a car repair, a medical bill, a rent increase — can push them into a spiraling crisis.

That’s why United Way Broward is taking action.

Through our expanding Project Lifeline, we are working to eliminate food insecurity across our region — ensuring people in need have direct access to fresh, nutritious food by coordinating the bulk purchase and delivery of fruits, vegetables, dairy, protein, and more to a network of 30 food-distribution sites.

Since its launch in 2009, Project Lifeline has distributed over 18 million lbs. of food to more than 7 million people. In the past year alone, nearly 550,000 individuals and families received support through this program.

But the need continues to grow — and so must our response. To reach more families, stock more food banks, and serve more people, we need additional resources. Our vision is bold: a hunger-free Broward where every child, adult, and senior has access to the nourishment they need to thrive.

To support this powerful goal, we are very excited to announce an incredible opportunity that can amplify the impact of your generosity: On Giving Tuesday — December 2 — Holman is matching every dollar donated to United Way Broward. This incredible generosity by Holman means your gift will go twice as far in alleviating hunger for people in our community.

Donate $100, and Holman will match it to make $200. Give $1,000, and your impact becomes $2,000. Every dollar you contribute will be doubled — turning compassion into action.

For this year’s Giving Tuesday, our goal is to raise $50,000. With Holman’s matching grant, we can double the impact to $100,000 — providing tens of thousands of meals to people in need during the holiday season.

Giving Tuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday, is a global movement that encourages people to give back to their communities. It takes place annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, right after consumer-driven events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

This timing is intentional. It shifts the focus from spending to sharing, from consumption to compassion. Since its inception, Giving Tuesday has raised billions of dollars for causes around the world.

This year, you can be part of this transformational change in Broward County. When matched by the remarkable philanthropy from Holman, your donation to United Way Broward can make a powerful difference:

· $1,000 provides over 1,600 nutritious meals

· $250 provides 650 lbs. of fresh produce and protein

· $100 buys nearly 300 lbs. of food

· $30 feeds 50 people with healthy meals

Every contribution — no matter the size — helps us move closer to a community where no one goes hungry. This matching grant from Holman is a unique opportunity for our community to come together and show that Broward County is filled with people who care.

Make your donation by December 2, and share this opportunity on your social channels using the hashtag #UWBCGivingTuesday.

Let’s rise to the challenge. Let’s ensure that no child goes to bed hungry, no senior misses a meal, and no family experiences the holidays without food on the table.
