Our Women United Advocates for Change and Uplifts People in Broward County
Every March, Women’s International Month honors the contributions and achievements of women around the world. It is a time for reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to the pursuit of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
In connection with International Women’s Day on March 8, Women’s International Month has grown into a global movement advocating for women’s rights and recognizing their pivotal role in society.
The first National Woman’s Day was observed in the U.S. in 1909, and over the years, International Women’s Day has evolved into a wide-ranging platform to celebrate women’s achievements, address ongoing challenges, and highlight the essential ways women are shaping and enhancing our communities.
Women’s International Month certainly is a time for celebration, but it also serves as a call to action. Women continue to face enormous disparities in society, and promoting gender-sensitive policies and practices in workplaces, schools, healthcare, and our communities is essential for the equality of all.
The theme for International Women’s Day in 2025 on March 8 is “Accelerate Action,” and United Way of Broward County is committed to addressing systemic barriers and biases that prevent equality as well as empowering the next generation of women and girls to be catalysts for lasting change.
Our Women United initiative is focused on inspiring and motivating each other as well as uplifting Broward County’s most vulnerable populations through philanthropy, advocacy, and volunteerism.
When women collaborate and share their power, we become agents of change in our communities. Women United is an outstanding example of this fact, and examples of our impact include:
- improving the quality of early childhood education
- helping families achieve financial prosperity
- promoting women’s equality
- ensuring access to maternal health
- correcting social disparities
- supporting diversity and inclusion
- inspiring new generations of women to reach their full potential
Our Women United initiative is part of a global movement of 80,000+ women, spanning 165 communities and six countries. In Broward County alone, Women United comprises nearly 1,000 members who invest their time, talent, expertise, and financial resources to build a stronger community so everyone at any stage of life can thrive.
