Project Lifeline: The Heartbeat of Broward’s Food Assistance

Empowered by Gratitude: Client Becomes a Volunteer

“I have one son and several nieces and nephews in our home, and the cost for healthy foods has become outrageous,” says Ann-Marie. “I learned about Project Lifeline’s food distribution at Fort Lauderdale SDA Food Pantry, and it has helped us so much. I am very grateful for the fresh, nutritious food and the care and generosity my family has received.”

Like Anne-Marie, an estimated 220,000 people in Broward County face food instability every day, including 67,000 children. United Way of Broward County created Project Lifeline to address the increasing number of children, adults, and seniors in our community who are who are struggling to make ends meet and facing food insecurity.

Project Lifeline coordinates the purchase and delivery of fresh, nutritious food — fruits, vegetables, meats, rice, beans, and grains — to a network of 33 food banks and feeding programs throughout Broward County.

Since inception, this program has coordinated the delivery of 17.5 million lbs. of healthy groceries, and nearly 500,000 households in Broward County received support in the past year.
