Throughout the government shutdown, United Ways around the country have been providing a range of services to federal workers and others, including financial assistance, counseling, and emergency support for food, rent, and other immediate needs. As the shutdown continues, we’re here to support you. Check back here often for new resources and updates.

Furloughed Workers: Guidance about unemployment benefits is available here.

Food Security Programs: SNAP, WIC, Free and Reduced-Price Lunch, and other benefits are still active as of now, but please check USDA for updates.

Public Housing (Section 8): More information is available here and through your local agency.

Medicaid, CHIP, Disability, and Social Security Benefits: These are not affected by the shutdown.

Reach out to your local 211 for assistance during the government shutdown. 211 Broward is a 24-hour helpline connecting residents to food, housing, health care, elder care, child care, legal aid, and mental health support. MISSION UNITED
An initiative supporting veterans and their families with navigation to employment services, education, legal aid, health care, affordable housing, and other resources. Veterans and their families can access programs through the 211 Helpline by calling 211, MISSION UNITED at 954.4.UNITED (954-486-4833), or visiting their website.
Food Assistance
Access participating food pantries through United Way Broward’s Project Lifeline: UnitedWayBroward.org/Project-Lifeline.
United Way Broward’s Project Lifeline, which includes Hangar of Hope, is committed to providing immediate support to individuals and families facing hardship. This program offers food, hygiene items, and other essential resources to community members who need them most. By partnering with volunteers, local organizations, and community members, Project Lifeline ensures that help reaches those impacted by emergencies, unexpected financial challenges, or other crises.
