Broward Tax Pro Is Making a Significant Impact to ALICE Households
Broward Tax Pro provides free, reliable tax-return services across Broward County, and services include tax-return preparation, review of tax credits, e-filing, direct deposit and other tax-related resources.
The services offered by Broward Tax Pro are made possible by funding from United Way of Broward County as well as other community partners, including Hispanic Unity of Florida, Children’s Services Council of Broward County, Community Access Center, HandsOn Broward, Center for Independent Living of Broward and Urban League of Broward.
When you take advantage of Broward Tax Pro, you don’t need to pay hundreds of dollars for tax preparation. This service is provided by trained, qualified tax professionals who will prepare taxes at no cost for households with an annual income of $75,000 or less. Plus people who qualify for the services with Broward Tax Pro often are eligible for special tax credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly.
One of the goals of IRS-certified volunteers will prepare taxes and review the variety of tax credits to make sure you get the largest refund for which you qualify.
Broward Tax Pro has multiple locations across Broward County, flexible hours and services in multiple languages. Tax services also are made accessible and convenient through walk-in services, appointments, drop-off services and virtual services.
The economic impact to our entire community has been significant. Broward Tax Pro has been instrumental in helping people who live in ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households receive millions of dollars in refunds. ALICE refers to people in our community who earn just above the Federal Poverty Level but less than what it costs to make ends meet.
Since 2010, Broward Tax Pro has helped return nearly $73 million to the community, and the program has helped taxpayers claim over $25 million in Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credits. In the 2023 tax season alone, the impact of Broward Tax Pro is phenomenal:
- 3,300 families and individuals took advantage of this program.
- $3 million in taxes were refunded to eligible taxpayers.
- Over $1 million was saved by eliminating tax preparation fees.
