SUPPORTING HOUSING NEEDS

United Way of Broward created the Housing United initiative to provide cost-burdened residents, who are categorized as Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE), with immediate and long-term housing solutions.

Through Housing United, we focus on:

  • Providing housing subsidies
  • Homebuyer empowerment
  • Preservation of homes and affordable housing units

ALICE DEMOGRAPHICS

According to the most recent ALICE report, in Broward County there are about 747,715 households that are ALICE or below the Federal Poverty Line.

Those facing the highest percentage of hardship include:

  • 54% of Black families
  • 62% of individuals under 25
  • 61% of Seniors (65+)
  • 74% of single-parent households

The annual median income in Broward County is $65,000, while the average cost of a 1-bedroom/1-bathroom apartment is $2100, and a 3-bedroom/2-bathroom apartment is close to $3000.

IMMEDIATE HOUSING ASSISTANCE FOR VETERANS

Since 2013, our MISSION UNITED program served over 5,000 Veterans with the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. MISSION UNITED can help veterans and their families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness with case management and financial assistance.
